Although it may raise an eyebrow or two, the preparation that goes into Prom CAN be akin to bridal preparations: there's the selection of a more-than-ordinary dress, plans for special hair and makeup, shoes, accessories, florals, a fast-paced, whirlwind day ... nerves -- on both the parts of the graduates AND the parents. Prom sessions - even mini ones like these - can slow down the day and allow teen, mom, dad, siblings and even boyfriend or prom date to carve and protect some time for themselves before the swarming of friends and the big celebration - and provide them a keepsake in more ways than one. To Callie, Genevieve, Teghan and your families: thank-you for allowing me to give you that space and for trusting me to provide you with mementos of your day. Do. Great. Things. xox
Merle, Courtney & Connor: Little Black Dresses, Mother's Day +Portrait Couture with the Family4/1/2015 With her daughter ready to go off to university, Merle knew she wanted to spend some special mother-daughter time with Courtney. Mother and daughter dawned their favourite little black dresses, got pampered with hair and makeup and smiled and laughed their way through a Mother-Daughter Portrait Couture Session, revealing their strength, confidence and beauty as women. Even son, Connor, joined in at the end to give and receive some hugs to the special women in his life. "Mother's Day" was just the excuse to get this family in front of the lens. Geography and time will eventually separate them -- but their shared smiles, laughs and memories will remain in their minds and in their images. Thank-you, Merle, Courtney and Connor for your trust and for the very distinct honour of allowing me to create this with you. xox
Hair -- Stephanie Richardson, Richardson Hair Design Makeup -- Megan Roberts, 2bu Esthetics & Makeup Artistry An open letter to all of us once again as Mother's Day approaches:
TO OUR MOTHERS: You must exist in photos for your children. One day, they will be grown and those photos will be priceless. Remind yourselves of your beauty when all you can see is theirs. TO OUR CHILDREN, AND MOST ESPECIALLY, TO OUR DAUGHTERS: You must get momma out from behind the lens and in front of it. You are her focus and always will be; remind her of her beauty when all she can see is yours. Remind her of the woman she is. Be there to share it with her. Celebrate your beauty as women and as mothers, together. One day, the cards will shuffle and those photos will be priceless. TO OUR WOMEN: We MUST exist in photos for our families, our children, ourselves. The time is NOW -- not when you're 10lbs lighter, not when your hair is longer, not when your teeth are whiter or when you have the perfect outfit -- there is no guarantee of tomorrow. Exist. Give them something to look back on, to hold and to continue to love. TO OUR MEN: Encourage her to do this. Remind her she is beautiful and valued and that she belongs to a network of other beautiful, strong women. Stand back and watch her come home validated and happy. *NOW booking* Mother - Daughter Portrait Couture Sessions. In studio. Your mother. Your daughters. Your women. $199 (+hst). Up to 5 people. With no particular special excuse needed, mother and daughter duo, Tracy and Sarah, decided to spend some quality time together as women and treat themselves to a Mother-Daughter Portrait Couture Session. They were first pampered with hair and makeup by Richardson Hair Design and 2bu Esthetics & Makeup Artistry and then confidently stepped in front of the camera to enjoy some smiles, laughs and good spirits. Thank-you, Tracy & Sarah for the trust you so obviously extended me and for allowing me to capture and showcase the beauty that lies within.
To our Mothers: You must exist in photos for your children. One day, they will be grown and those photos will be priceless.
To our Children: You must get mum out from behind the lens and in front of it. You are her focus and always will be; remind her of her beauty and be there to share it with her. One day, she will be gone and those photos will be priceless. To All: We MUST exist in photos for each other. The time is NOW -- not when you're 10lbs lighter, not when your hair is longer, not when you have a better outfit -- as there is no guarantee of tomorrow. To Diana, Milena, Anastasia and Paulina: thank-you for recognizing the importance of photos and sharing a priceless experience with the key women in your lives. You have given each other precious keepsakes -- the value of which cannot be measured. xox |
