From the beginning, Ava has been full of surprises for new parents, Shannon and Andrew. She took her time coming to this world, but couldn't wait any longer to enter it -- her story is a special one (see April 15 blog post). Ava came to me 10 days new (hospital footpricks still not healed), a beautiful, peaceful little bundle, totally content with her existence and surroundings. She tried out her mother's favourite English saddle and bit, wore a 100-year-old family heirloom Christening gown, was kept cozy by her handmade sweater and bonnet -- lovingly put together by her mother while Ava was still in the womb -- and made us all envious with her not-a-care-in-the-world slumber. Mom and Dad are so incredibly easy-going with this little girl it is absolutely heartwarming to watch -- like this little being was always meant to be exactly where she is in this moment in time. Congratulations, Shannon and Andrew. I am absolutely honoured you have allowed me to share in Ava's introduction to the world. I look forward to witnessing and capturing Ava's first year of milestones! The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.
